Casey Stoner is the 2011 MotoGP World Champion!

Casey Stoner confirms his status as the most successful rider in the 800cc era by winning the final year of the MotoGP championship with this engine classification.

Stoner proved to be in virtually untouchable form at his home race at Phillip Island. Even at times when it seems Lorenzo was getting close to Stoner's pace, it seemed this was only being acheived due to Casey running an older tyre. Once a new tyre was fitted the consistent 0.6 margin was re-established.

The race was marred somewhat due to the fact that neither factory Yamaha was on the grid come race day. Lorenzo suffered a severed finger tip in the final minute of qualifying, whilst Spies received a cracked rib following a high speed off at Phillip Island's turn 3.

This win gave Stoner an unbeatable lead in the championship over 2010 World Champion Jorge Lorenzo. Congratulations Casey Stoner, 2011 MotoGP World Champion!
